Spaying and neutering your pet has a range of benefits other than preventing their ability to reproduce. There are a few reproductive cancers your furry friend is susceptible to. The procedures eliminates the risk of your pet being diagnosed with these conditions.

What is spaying and neutering?

The procedure removes your pet’s reproductive organs, which permanently changes their ability to reproduce. For female pets (spaying), an abdominal incision is made to remove their ovaries and fallopian tube. For male pets (neutering), a similar incision is made near their scrotum to remove their testes. There is a variety of benefits to your pet having the procedure, including:

• Less risk of developing reproductive cancers
• Less behaviours associated with their heat cycle
• Less roaming and decreased aggression
